yeah. The last map pack might be free at this point. Bungie at least turns them to free when they become a required maps for regular playlists.

Multiplayer is the best aspect of Halo 3 if you are willing to spend a couple bucks on map packs. It’s also a social game like somewhat mentioned. I play it because of the people I know on the game. If they were to stop playing, I would definitely get rid of the title. You should definitely give some multiplayer a shot though. The campaign was probably the most criticized element.

Suppose I’m glad I haven’t got into Halo’s multiplayer. I barely get by solo on campaign. Not a bad game per se, just not feeling it right now. Guess I’m saving myself some money.

that’s exactly how it works. The genius behind Halo isn’t the fact that it’s such an «awesome game». It’s the friendships that we’ve developed over the past couple of years playing it. There are a lot of people on my friends list that would prefer to play another game, but we all have (and know how to play rather well) Halo.

The thing where they get you is if you are hooked on Halo 3, you have to buy the maps due to the playlists. If you want to continue playing with your friends, you need the maps or you feel guilty keeping them from playing certain playlists. It’s a nasty circle that they can use to cash in on until Halo 4 comes out.

I bought Halo Wars just for the maps like a dummy Funny thing is I ended up kinda liking HW. It wasn’t worth the money, but it was kinda fun at times and the story was good. I am not a fan of the new maps. If they brought us Waterworks or Headlong, I’d be excited to pay though.

Nice article and examples

You definitely have to be smart when getting
yourself in the “DLC” action. Great examples
are map packs and then stuff like “Lost and
Damned” that completely blows all the other
lame DLC content out of the water.

Makes the upcoming Saints Row 2 DLC –
$10 for 3 measly missions — insulting.

I find that DLC is often a ripoff and I have to wonder if some content is intentionally held back for future sale…

Sometimes, you really get your money’s worth from DLC, but my experience is that I often feel buyer’s remorse after paying for it (most of the time).
