Star Trek was a "good movie", but it honestly didn't stand up to ST. I doubt Roddenberry would have approved...

It felt kinda like an exciting action movie without the substance, charm and overall feel of what Star Trek was and should be. They did modernize it though, but at the expense of some key elements. I did think Kirk was good, possibly great. Spock was ok. Bones was boring compared to the original.

Maybe I am just old-school, but this film didn't seem to have any of the social and political meaning the original had.
