Prototype Game Review (PS3)

prototype

Prototype takes place in a monster infested Manhattan where the US military has declared martial law to try and retake the city and prevent a deadly virus from spreading. You get to play Alex Mercer, a man who has been infused with a deadly organic virus that resulted in a loss of his memory but has turned him into a living weapon of unrivaled power. Getting to play around in the open sandbox of Manhattan is quite fun, and from the same team who brought you Hulk: Ultimate Destruction for the PS2, it’s a shame this game isn’t as fun, and yet still suffers from the same pitfalls as its giant green “predecessor”.

Punch-Out!! (Nintendo Wii Review)

cover

Publisher: Nintendo

Developer: Next Level Games

Genre(s): Sports, Boxing

Players: 2

ESRB Rating: E10+ (Everyone 10 and Older)

Release Date: May 18, 2009

More than two decades have passed since I played the original Punch-Out!! NES game.  I didn’t pick up Punch-Out!! on launch day due to the fact that it seems I am a sucker for nostalgic games that fall flat on their face.  Now that the hype has died down, I decided to jump into the ring and see if the game was equal to the high reviews it has received so far.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Review (PS3)

gijoerc_ps3pftfront

System: Playstation 3
Publisher: EA Games
Developer: EA Games
Release Date: 08/04/2009
Players: 1-2
Considering G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra currently has a 43/100 score on metacritic, I didn’t expect much.  I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised with the experience.  While it’s certainly not a “great” game, it’s much better than most reviews lead on.  The strength of G.I. Joe lies within the couch co-op experience.

Sexy Poker Game Review (WiiWare)

Sexy Poker™
Publisher: Gameloft
Players: 1
ESRB Rating: M (Mature) - Simulated Gambling, Suggestive Themes
Price: 500 Wii Points

968930_20090803_790screen003

Some people claim that Nintendo Wii is for the kids, but with titles like MadWorld, No More Heroes and Sexy Poker, I have to say that the Wii actually has some completely adult-themed games.  While this game doesn’t have any actual nudity, I’d say that children should NOT play this title.  If you are an adult interested in this type of game, read on…

Musaic Box PC Game Review

screenshot2_screen2

After your grandfather summons you to his house, you arrive to find it empty, save only for the Musaic Box. That’s all you need to know about the story really. This game is charmingly simple yet deceptive in the challenge provided by this game’s unique take on fusing the puzzle genre with the music genre. The game has you looking through 8 rooms for various clues similar to a mystery game, but not nearly as difficult. Once you find enough clues you can open another puzzle, this is where the game really shines, or rather sings.

TMNT: Turtles In Time Re-Shelled Review (360, XBLA)

tmnt_turtles_in_time_reshelled

The re-release of this popular TMNT game shows one thing, I’m still a sucker for the Ninja Turtle games. This beat’em up plays just like the other TMNT Arcade game that’s already been out on XBLA, smash your way to the end boss. The difference between the two is this new “re-shelled” version has a graphics upgrade, the ability to attack in 8 directions, and more options to play around with.

‘Splosion Man Review (360, XBLA)

splosionman

I enjoy platforming games so I was quite excited to hear that ‘Splosion Man was a pure platforming title on XBLA. Bypassing the demo completely, I downloaded the game straight to my 360 based on some recommendations from other gamers I know. The verdict…they were right about ‘Splosion Man. It lived up to the pure platforming fun I was expecting. But they are two sides to every coin.

Mario Kart Review (Nintendo Wii)

mario-kart-mario

Speeding your kart down the road in first place, you start power sliding into the last turn of the course, the finish line is finally in view, when suddenly your hit by a red turtle shell which sends you spinning out of control, catching me out of the corner of your eye, glancing back at you as I turbo boost out of the turn and across the finish line taking first place. Mario Kart Wii drives into homes all across the world and is the best game in the franchise to date.

Fallout 3 Review (Sony PS3)

Fallout 3 PS3

Fallout 3 PS3

Imagine a nuclear war between America and China had left the world a radiated pile or debris, and the only survivors were people who escaped into special Vault-Tec underground bunkers. Now imagine that you are born inside Vault 101, located in the ravaged remains of Washington D.C., and just after turning 19 your father mysteriously exits the vault without leaving a clue as to where or why, and so you become the second person to ever leave the depths of vault to chase after him.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Review (Sony PS3)

Naruto

If you’re a Naruto fan, you may be a bit disappointed, if you’re a gamer you will be let down, and if you’re a Naruto fan and a gamer, you will be both. Although Cyberconnect2 created a simple and artistic fighter for the PS3, they have failed at creating a true tribute to the popular Naruto series, as fans of the show will easily be able to pick apart where the game obviously fails, and gamers will not have much fun.

Batlefield 1943 Quick Review (PSN)

1246664073_battlefield-1943

Considering I am a huge fan of most Battlefield games, I decided to get in on the 1943 action this past week.  While the game is certainly good, it lacks in enough areas to warrant concern for some of the extrememly high reviews it has been receiving on numerous sites.

Noby Noby Boy Review (PS3)

898337-noby_noby_boy__5

Do you like the weird and twisted? How about the unique and strange? Well Noby Noby Boy is the perfect game for you. The game is a PS3 exclusive available only via the PSN for a low price of $5. It involves a blob-like creature that eats and stretches to great lengths. That’s about the only thing to do in the game but it does get a little more involved.

ZEN Pinball Review (PS3)

zen

Being a pinball fan, I was eager to download and play ZEN Pinball available on the PlayStation network. After spending some time with it, I can honestly say it’s the best pinball game I’ve played on any console (take that Sonic Spinball). What makes it the best? Glad you asked.

Mirror’s Edge Review (PS3, Xbox360)

me

On a demo interest and cheap sale price, I decided to pick up Mirror’s Edge recently. What can I say about this game that hasn’t already been said? Well, I can say that I hated over half of it and more often than not, I wanted to fling the disc out of the windows. I don’t think that’s been said yet. It’s time to go into detail why I wanted to hold a knife’s edge to the throats of its creators.
