120 GB Hard-drive to be discontinued?

Recent evidence has come to suggest that the 120 gigabyte hard-drive could be discontinued for the Xbox 360. Eurogamer released a news post earlier this week discussing a price drop for the hard-drive by Microsoft, who were quoted on saying “In Europe, the 120GB Hard Drive is available for an ERP of €129.99 / £79.99 while supplies last“. Good Movie Based Video Games

If there is one thing that is well known amongst gamers, it is that video games based on movies are usually terrible. In fact, some are downright shameful (i.e. E.T., Star Wars: Obi Wan, Enter the Matrix etc.) and even go so far as to make the movie experience less enjoyable. However, there are some [...]

Assassin’s Creed 2 – A Paragraph Review

“Ezio! I meant for you to keep running not to start climbing the walls! Why would I want you to take a dive from ten stories up onto solid concrete below? Keep climbing!” Don’t be surprised if early on in your play time with AC2 you hear yourself yelling out to your covert assassin to control a bit better. The mechanics never entirely meliorate but you get used to them enough to enjoy directing Ezio a la free running and parkour-esque scaling through beautiful Renaissance-era Italy. Add varied objectives, engaging combat, side missions that you’ll actually want to take on, and you have the ingredients to spruce up AC2 for even those who soured on the original. Further control streamlining will be a task left for the third act.

Miner Dig Deep – A Paragraph Review

Following in the footsteps of EGM and, most recently, Mitch Dyer’s “One Paragraph” reviews I bring you…well, basically the same thing. Short, one-paragraph reviews on games that are not necessarily recent, but games I’d still like to take a critical eye to. In reality, it’s just a way to trick myself into writing and updating this blog more often. Let me know what you think!

Xbox’s Indie section is, much like the iPhone’s App Store, filled mostly with pure and utter crap. Miner Dig Deep is one of the gems that serves as a counter to that statement. Simple, yet elegantly designed, MDD gives you a mine and a few tools to make it to the center of the world — presumably. Each incremental upgrade nets you a satisfying return on your investment (wait until you go past your initial pickax) and it keeps it up for 6-8 hours. Whether you treat it as a sweet background game when catching up on podcasts or an exemplary model for the 80 MS-point Indie game, MDD successfully pulls you in to digging its lucrative quarry and loving every minute of it.

As the anticipation builds up for Halo: Reach the video game, which is set for a Fall 2010 release, one might want to read up on the 2001 novel of a similar name. An Inspiring Step Forward

Stop the presses—there’s a new game-to-film adaptation, and it’s… it’s actually pretty good. Yeah, I know; us gamers have suffered through some pretty awful movies, hoping that they would live up to the games they were based on, but let’s face it—in the past, the ambition was there, but the technology and acting quite frankly [...]

Genre by System

This console generation has seen a divergence in style for each platform’s exclusive titles. All three home systems have carved out a segment of the market and audience of their own by virtue of this. To revisit elements of my last post, each system’s niche could be best compared to movie genres. The first, and maybe [...]

NBA Live 10 Review

The prospect of a new NBA Live game seems to always draw attention, as it should; EA’s basketball simulation has been around as long as some of its fans have been alive, and so it deserves some respect for sticking to the genre for so long. But the talented execution one might expect of a [...]
