G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Review (PS3)

gijoerc_ps3pftfront

System: Playstation 3
Publisher: EA Games
Developer: EA Games
Release Date: 08/04/2009
Players: 1-2
Considering G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra currently has a 43/100 score on metacritic, I didn’t expect much.  I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised with the experience.  While it’s certainly not a “great” game, it’s much better than most reviews lead on.  The strength of G.I. Joe lies within the couch co-op experience.

Fantasy Football 2009: My Team

fantasy football

I finally joined a Final Fantasy Football League on Yahoo for this season and have drafted my team.  I’ve had better initial drafts in the past, but I am satisfied with what I have this time around for the most part.  My only main concern is finding a better QB as the season goes on.

My Starting Lineup for Week 1:

  • Jay Cutler QB
  • Larry Fitzgerld WR
  • Marques Colston WR
  • Braylon Edwards WR
  • Steven Jackson RB
  • Pierre Thomas RB
  • Dallas Clark TE

My Bench:

  • Reggie Bush RB
  • Devin Hester WR
  • Steve Breaston WR
  • Trent Edwards QB
  • Visanthe Shianco TE

Defense:

New York Giants

Kicker:

  • Nate Kaeding
  • Matt Prader

Team Notes

  • Waiver 1 - Aug 18: Michael Vick dropping Steve Breaston -
  • Waiver 2 - Aug 18: Le’Ron McClain dropping Reggie Bush -
  • Waiver 3 - Aug 18: Indianapolis dropping Devin Hester -

In the end, I think I drafted a strong team that will perform well.  I need to unload Trent Edwards for a more capable QB, but with T.O. in Buffalo, Edwards could surprise us.  Picking up Michael Vick was a bit of a risk, but I think he’ll be extremely valuable towards the end of the season.  I’ll be posting a new update every weekend and will hopefully win another league championship.  The last time I won a league was back when Kurt Warner won the Super Bowl with the Rams.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (PS3 Review)

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC)

Developer: Starbreeze Studios/Tigon Studios

Publisher: Atari

Released: April 7, 2009

MSRP: $59.99

We finally got the chance to play the new Riddick game (PS3 version) and can definitely say its worth picking up.  This title has certainly been under-rated by many sites.  For whatever reason, the Microsoft Gods didn’t include Escape From Butcher Bay on their backwards compatibility list, but Assault on Dark Athena gives you another chance to play the game.  It’s basically the same great game with polished graphics and sound.  If you somehow missed this title, you simply need to buy Assault on Dark Athena.  Escape From Butcher Bay was one of my picks for “top 5 Xbox games”…

Dragon Ball: Evolution (Sony PSP Review)

dragon-ball-evolution-psp-screenshot-big

If you are a Dragon Ball enthusiast, this game may still suck for you.  I had modest hopes for this title and it turned out to be much worse than I expected…

This particular game is based on the live-action film by the same name, but it never even comes close to being an enjoyable title.  Most Dragon Ball games are mediocre or good on average, and that’s usually enough for the hard-core fans.  I did discover a few positive aspects of the PSP game, but not enough to raise my review score.

The Good

  • Unlockable storyboards added some depth and quality to the game.
  • Unlockable sketches were far more interesting than the actual game.

The Bad

  • This game was simply boring button mashing after button mashing…
  • The cutscenes were horribly done and made me want to throw the PSP out the window.
  • Character models were poorly done.
  • The game was not challenging in any aspect.

Sounds pretty bad, eh?  For $40 you are getting what feels like a very amateurish game with absolutely no redeeming value.  You can beat the game with one arm behind your back in about 2-2.5 hours maximum.  I actually dropped $40 on this title out of my own pocket to see if it was as bad as some people said.  It was!  The game does have multiplayer, but once you tinker around with campaign, you’ll have no desire to play against others.

My Score 1/10
