10 Greatest Lies In Video Game History
Posted by Will Snizek in The Old School, Video Games on September 24th, 2009
If gamers were great at one thing, that would be lying. Throughout the years, gamers from around the world have conjured up lies (video game urban legends) that were believed to be true by the masses. I decided to put together a list of my favorite video game lies to share with our readers. Feel free to challenge me on any of these, but I guarantee that all of the following tales are indeed untrue:
#10. Blowing into NES cartridges will fix them.

One of the biggest lies of the 1980s was the whole blowing into the NES cartridge tale. Most gamers believed that blowing into cartridges would fix them and allow you to play games that weren’t loading. By doing this, you were actually damaging the cartridges with moisture. Using alcohol and Q-tips would be the proper way to clean and fix cartridges that don’t load.

Red Box Adding Games To Service
Posted by Will Snizek in Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3, Video Games, Xbox 360 on August 19th, 2009

I stopped using movie rental stores the day Red Box showed up in my town and I could rent a film for $1. Now it looks like they will also be renting out video games for $2/night. Unfortunately, it looks like they are only going to be initially available in Nevada and North Carolina.

Wii Sports Resort is a $50 collection of fun and quirky sports games that can be played by anyone from someone who never used a Wii to the more hard-core Wii crowd. The sequel to Wii Sports (which comes free with a system purchase) makes use of the Wii MotionPlus accessory, which provides gamers with a more responsive and accurate motion control experience. Wii MotionPlus is included with Wii Sports Resort.
Top Ten Star Wars PC Games
Posted by Will Snizek in PC, Video Games on July 28th, 2009

I’m not into PC gaming the way I was in the past, but I still enjoy revisiting some of the old classics. While Star Wars games have been relatively bad on consoles, the PC market got most of the great SW titles. Here are my picks for the “top 10 Star Wars PC games”:
- 10 Star Wars: Dark Forces
- 9 Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
- 8 Star Wars: Dark Forces II
- 7 Star Wars: X-Wing
- 6 Star Wars: TIE Fighter
- 5 Star Wars: Republic Commando
- 4 Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
- 3 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II
- 2 Star Wars: Empire at War
- 1 Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
I’m sure that most people would pick KOTOR as their top Star Wars game. Not only is it the greatest Star Wars themed RPG, but it’s one of the best overall RPGs I have ever played. I was a little upset when I discovered KOTOR III was an MMO, but I think I might still give it a shot anyway. What really separates Star Wars games on the PC from the console games is the ability to modify the games and the stronger internet Star Wars community.

E3 2009: Brütal Legend Information
Posted by Will Snizek in Video Games on May 26th, 2009

E3 will be happening next week and we’re certainly excited. One game that really sticks out in our minds this week is Brütal Legend, which will be one of the most talked about games at the event.
Here’s some official information we just received:
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (PS3 Review)
Posted by Will Snizek in Game Reviews on May 21st, 2009

Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC)
Developer: Starbreeze Studios/Tigon Studios
Publisher: Atari
Released: April 7, 2009
MSRP: $59.99
We finally got the chance to play the new Riddick game (PS3 version) and can definitely say its worth picking up. This title has certainly been under-rated by many sites. For whatever reason, the Microsoft Gods didn’t include Escape From Butcher Bay on their backwards compatibility list, but Assault on Dark Athena gives you another chance to play the game. It’s basically the same great game with polished graphics and sound. If you somehow missed this title, you simply need to buy Assault on Dark Athena. Escape From Butcher Bay was one of my picks for “top 5 Xbox games”…
Twitter: The Best Video Game Secret?
Posted by Aaron Mazza in Video Games on May 18th, 2009

Raise your hands class, how many of you have heard of Twitter? Now how many of you actually have a Twitter account? Less hands I see, well shame on you. Twitter, in a nutshell, is a social networking site of sorts but without all the profile jazz. It allows users quick updates under 140 characters per post, replies to other users, and direct private messages. You can use Twitter any way you see fit but let’s be honest, we enjoy games here so what other way to use and abuse Twitter than video games. I’m going to let you in on some Twitter secrets.
Sacred 2: Fallen Angel Review On The Way
Posted by Will Snizek in PC, Sony PS3, Video Games, Xbox 360 on May 14th, 2009

Anyone who is still on the fence when it comes to Sacred 2, stay tuned for our review which will be posted in the near future. Carlos and I will be playing the game at the same time, so we’ll certainly get a chance to play the game in-depth. I have already begun playing the game and it certainly looks like something I will enjoy. So far, it seems more enjoyable on the PS3 than the game was on the PC.
Is Retro The Way To Go?
Posted by Aaron Mazza in Uncategorized, Video Games on May 1st, 2009

Have we run out of ideas or are old things really popular again? It seems like everyday, something old is new again. Whether it’s clothing, movies, or video games, the retro train is in effect. Question in turn, do you ride or stand idly and confused as it rushes past you. As for myself, I’m somewhere in the middle. I enjoy some retro things but confused why it’s needed. I point my direction to two genres; movies and video games. There’s a certain line I draw when it comes to digging up the past, let’s take a look, shall we?
The Most Over-Hyped Game In My Collection Is…
Posted by Will Snizek in Sony PS3, Video Games on April 26th, 2009

Killzone 2 for the PS3 is currently the most over-hyped and over-rated video game I own. I bought it launch week and have only played the game a couple times. I really loved the graphics and thought the lighting effects were really good, but this wasn’t the 10/10 and 9.5/10 game everyone said it was going to be. The controls are a little funky and aiming flat out sucks. What really bothers me is the fact that this could have been a truly epic game for me, but the controls are the main aspect I really just can’t get around. I was annoyed with the game after a few hours on it. That rarely happens with FPS games and me. Whenever I do load up the game, I find myself wishing I was just playing some Resistance or Halo instead.
The only reason I hold on to it is in hopes that I somehow get motivated to play through the entire game and find some redeeming factors. Right now, I simply don’t have the motivation or interest in Killzone 2. I certainly feel like it’s the most over-hyped game in my collection at this time.
Mazza’s Laundry List
Posted by Aaron Mazza in Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3, Video Games, Xbox 360 on April 13th, 2009

Who wants to do my laundry? Luckily, this list isn’t about my clothing laundry but my gaming list. I think all gamers suffer from having a laundry list or backlog as some call it. I’m usually pretty good with mine up until recent. Let’s go into detail over my dilemma and please leave your comments and experiences below.
